The next GFT meeting is with Clive Dawson talking about York Cemetery. Sometimes described as “An Oasis in the City” York Cemetery is a lovely 24 acre spot with 28,000 graves, 17,000 monuments and 2 listed buildings. Clive is an acknowledged expert and he will talk about the history of the Cemetery which opened in 1837, discuss its demise in the 1960s and its recovery in the 1980s, driven by the then newly formed York Cemetery Trust and a team of volunteers. In addition, he will describe the buildings, the grounds, the plants and trees and why they were grown. This talk is followed in September by a guided tour of the cemetery.

All are welcome to attend. Annual membership of the Club is £12pp. For non-members to attend one talk the cost is £3 pp. Further information from either John Short or Erica Town.
