Don’t forget that the first talk of the Autumn season is tonight. A Forest of Flowers to be given by Alwyn Craven and Tom Hook. After studying and working in horticulture Alwyn created The Forest of Flowers project on his family farm in Huby near York. He was later joined by Tom Hook. The 74 acres of new woodland and wildflower meadows are part of a vision to provide a thriving natural sanctuary for wildlife and become as self-sufficient as they can . Alwyn will talk through the steps taken to create the habitat and the incredible variety of wildlife recorded on-site since, including the rare Tansy beetle, that very rarely strays from Fulford! They will also discuss how we can all support wildlife and biodiversity in our own back gardens.

Next summer the programme includes a follow-up visit to the Forest of Flowers where we will see how it’s flourished since its inception in 2015 with the introduction of numerous trees, shrubs, ponds and meadows.
